Thomas Irvine and family papers, 1899-1940.

Papers relating to the activities of Irvine, a Minnesota and Wisconsin lumberman associated with Frederick Weyerhaeuser (senior), and of Irvine's son Horace (1878-1947), a lumberman who also served on the boards of many St. Paul businesses. Included are correspondence (1901-1918), Oregon and Washington land purchase and sale records (1903-1923), maps and plats of those lands, federal and state tax records (1909-1932), and other materials pertaining to the Irvine Family Investment Company, St. Paul, a timberland investment begun by Thomas for the benefit of his descendants.

Thomas Howard Irvine was born in Madison County, Kentucky, on August 19, 1845, son of Thomas H. Irvine and his second wife, Sally Bryan. When Thomas was four years old, his family moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1864, they crossed the plains by wagon train to Virginia City, Montana Territory, and eventually settled in the Deer Lodge Valley.
